The Community of Madrid has a credit rating granted by the four rating agencies with the greatest international prestige.
S&P: A- with stable outlook (23/10/2020)
Moody's: Baa1 with stable outlook (17/09/2021)
DBRS: A- with a positive outlook (11/03/2022)
The economy of the Community of Madrid is expanding, with a GDP per capita clearly higher than the national average (around the 33.000 euros, an 35% higher than the average). This has also been translated into the high dynamism of the labor market. All this, together with improvements in financing conditions, compliance with the Budget Stability Objective and the expectation of continuing to reduce the debt ratio on current revenues guarantee a good performance of the credit rating.
Debt Structure at year-end 2021
The debt portfolio of the Community of Madrid closed the 2021 financial year with a structure similar to that of previous years, with debt in securities, at a fixed rate and in euros predominating. The Community of Madrid took advantage of the context of rates still at very low levels to finance itself at reduced long-term rates, mainly through bonds (increasing their weight by 3,6 percentage points). This strategy has made it possible to maintain the average life of the debt portfolio at over 8 years and reduce the average cost.
Distribution of the debt issued 2022
The Community of Madrid has managed to successfully place more than half of its financing needs in the first half of 2022, with great diversity by type of investor and country of origin.
