So it was...Beethoven revolutionizes the palace. An unprecedented cycle on the 250th anniversary of his birth
Series of concerts held at Welcome to the Palace! 2020
What would Beethoven think if he listened to the Hymn to joy of its Ninth Symphony turned into flamenco alegrías? And his famous sonata Moonlight in the "improvising" hands of a jazz pianist?
In the commemoration of this 2020 Beethoven Year, the already usual concert cycle of Welcome to the palace! of the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage of the Community of Madrid became Beethoven revolutionizes palace. An unheard of cycle on the 250th anniversary of his birth which was born with the vocation of offering a different vision and listening to the composer from Bonn, in the year in which his music sounded more than ever - in person or digitally, forced by the health crisis of COVID-19 - reaffirming his unquestionable habitual presence in halls and auditoriums around the world.
On this occasion, four palaces exceptionally opened their doors to accommodate a total of eleven concerts. Six new and innovative musical proposals around the universe of the Bonn composer. In them, the public listened to commissions made for the occasion to classical, jazz and flamenco artists, with the aim of revisiting the Beethovenian repertoire from the perspective of other genres, which allowed enriching the perception of their most popular works.
Likewise, the listener was able to discover his lesser-known repertoire, which in combination with some of his solo or chamber music masterpieces offered the opportunity to discover hidden gems from his catalog that are difficult to listen to live.
Beethoven revolutionizes palace It was a unique cycle that not only claimed the cultural heritage of the Community of Madrid, by offering a unique opportunity to visit some of its palaces converted into stages. Committed to the current complex moment that the music sector is going through, this cycle also supported and valued the extraordinary talent of artists with an international career living in the Community of Madrid mostly as an example of sustainability and cultural coherence. In addition, and given the new current needs for digitizing content due to the health situation of COVID-19, all the concerts were fully recorded and are included in this video library.
