Quality

The CTCM has defined a Quality Policy that is specified in the following points:

• Promote, plan and coordinate blood donation and apheresis based on a thorough knowledge of the needs and with the aim of achieving self-sufficiency.
• Maintain an adequate panel of donors, guaranteeing their correct attention, their safety and establishing the precise mechanisms for their satisfaction and loyalty.
• Guide our organization to meet the demand for blood components promptly through quality products that ensure the ideal treatment of patients, at the right time.
• Promote the donation of bone marrow and umbilical cord blood following the guidelines of the national plan, contributing to the recruitment of donors of hematopoietic progenitors with a high level of commitment.
• Stimulate the responsibility and commitment of all personnel so that they contribute, in the most effective way, to the achievement of the objectives and to the maintenance and improvement of the Quality Management System.
• Establish a continuous training program that ensures a permanent updating of the knowledge of the group of workers.
• Manage and maintain a Hemovigilance System that detects adverse effects associated with donation and transfusion.
• In compliance with current legislation, ensure the confidentiality of personal data in both donors and patients, as well as the results obtained in the analytical tests performed on their blood.
• Focus the organization towards the continuous improvement of all its activities.
• Achieve the full satisfaction of donors, workers and patients.

The fundamental Pillars of the CTCM QMS are the following:

• Thorough knowledge of processes.
• Establishment of a documentary system: Write what is done and do what has been written in the operating procedures.
• Notification of incidents that occur during daily activity.
• Establishment of an initial and ongoing training program for the job.
• Prevention of failures by establishing preventive actions when small deviations from what is expected are detected.
• Early detection of failures and implementation of corrective actions.
• Periodic audits (internal and external).
• Establishment of a system of quality indicators to monitor the "health" of the processes.
• Study and resolution of complaints, suggestions and claims.
• Focus on continuous improvement to achieve the satisfaction of donors, patients and user services.

As proof of its commitment to quality and as an improvement tool, the CTCM has implemented, since year xxxx, a QMS based on the standard ISO 9000 that reaches all your processes. The SGC of the CTCM is audited periodically in accordance with the quality standards of the Norm ISO-9001 of 2008 by AENOR, an independent certification entity accredited by ENAC.

In turn, the Histocompatibility Laboratory of the Immunology Service of the CTCM is accredited by the European Federation for Immunogenetics (EFI) to carry out histocompatibility studies in the following contexts:

• Solid organ transplant (renal and non-renal):
• Receiver typing.
• Detection of anti HLA antibodies and specific donor.
• Donor typing.
• Pretransplant crossmatch.
• Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation:
• Study of possible related donors.
• Unrelated donor typing.
• Donor typing from the Spanish registry.
• Umbilical cord typing.
• Association studies of HLA and diseases.
• Allo-response study associated with transfusion.

In December 2014, after a laborious audit process and after the resolution of the non-conformities detected, the Cord Blood Bank of the Community of Madrid obtained the CAT-ONT Certification (Foundation of the Transfusion Accreditation Committee and National Organization of Transplants) based on their Quality standards. This certification is international in scope and enjoys great prestige.

In the near future, the CTCM intends to obtain environmental certification ISO 14000 of 2008. The ISO 14001 standard is designed to strike a balance between maintaining profitability and reducing environmental impacts. This regulation helps organizations to systematically deal with environmental issues, in order to improve environmental behavior and detect possible economic benefits derived from proper waste management, reduction of environmental sanctions, etc.
