The Community of Madrid leads the attraction of foreign investment with 63,2% of the national total

The Community of Madrid leads the attraction of foreign investment, capturing almost two thirds of the national total with 63,2% and 7.579 million euros from January to June 2023. This is reflected in the latest data made public today by the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism related to the second quarter of 2023.

After the region, and in the annual accumulated, the Valencian Community is far behind, which has received 18,9% (2.268 million); Catalonia is relegated with just 6,9% (824 million) and the Region of Murcia adds 3,1% (371 million). Regarding the countries that have chosen Madrid, the US stands out (49%); Austria (9,8%), France (8,8%), Switzerland (8,5%) and Mexico (5,7%).

The main sectors where capital from abroad falls in the Community of Madrid in 2023 are the extraction of crude oil and natural gas (44%); telecommunications (22%); electric power supply; gas, steam and air (9,4%); real estate activities (5,1%); and construction of buildings (3%).

Regarding the operations of Madrid entities in other countries, it should be noted that they amount to 5.528 million, which represents 63,2% of all of Spain. Catalonia and the Basque Country represent a nominal 1,7% each.
