CONFERENCES "MADRID, INGENIO Y TÉCNICA"

As a complement to the exhibition "Ingenuity at the service of power. The codices of Leonardo da Vinci in the Austrian court", this series of conferences invites us to delve into the scientific splendor of Madrid during the Renaissance.
In 1561, Felipe II decided to move the capital of the kingdom to Madrid so the city began to transform from a medieval town to a modern city.
The king understood that the way for the empire to develop was through science and knowledge and thus be able to perpetuate the hegemony of the Habsburgs throughout the world. He believed that innovations and inventions should be useful and solve specific problems.
For this reason, Felipe II surrounded himself with the best scientists, artists, engineers and technicians who came to Madrid to carry out ambitious architectural, hydraulic or civil engineering projects. The most important treatises on these subjects also arrived, including most of Leonardo da Vinci's handwritten work because at that time Madrid was the center of scientific and technical knowledge.
The conferences will take place on April 13, 15, 20 and 22 in the Assembly Hall of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, calle Alcalá, 31. Madrid.
Attendance will require prior registration in the Reservation Center of the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage
