Here you will find information, graphic documentation, photographs, etc. of this work.
Completion of works: August 1989
In Ventas, lines 2 and 5 of the Metro converge. By number of Vla]eros it was situated in an intermediate place in the network as a whole, being used -at that time- on weekdays by an average of 30.000 passengers, adding those who access from the street and those who transfer between lines. Important points are presented on the occasion of the acts and bullfights that are held in the adjoining Plaza de Toros.
The objective of the action was to renovate a station already deteriorated by the years and the use and cut the routes to be carried out by the users, more than 100 m in some cases, with the consequent functional improvement that the new solution supposes.
Access from the outside is through two parallel entrances similar to those of the rest of line 2, one of which is newly created.
The two entrances delimit an outside space for staying and waiting conveniently landscaped. Through them, one enters the new lobby, a large, carefully designed space that simultaneously allows the distribution and control of transport tickets for passengers entering and leaving the Metro and the channeling of flows between lines. Along with this central work, the internal connections are restructured, and the station's coatings, waterproofing, lighting, signaling and services are formally renovated.
The large trapezoidal hall (approximately 19x35 meters) is built in the open, given its shallow depth. The structure is reinforced concrete. The wall coverings are brick in all the elements that make up the station and the flooring is light-colored terrazzo. The concrete slab that covers the hall remains visible, with its original texture.
An integrated lighting system is proposed that allows the relationship with the rest of the decorative elements and easily solves maintenance problems.
The signaling to the user is incorporated into the design from the modulation of the brick. It is the careful use of this traditional material that defines the image of the station and achieves the great environmental quality of the spaces.
The works began on September 30, 1988 and were completed in August 1989.
