What is volunteering?

A person who carries out volunteering activities is considered a volunteer, according to Law 1/2015, of February 24, on Volunteering in the Community of Madrid.

Volunteering is the set of activities of general interest carried out by natural persons within public or private organizations, which are free, gratuitous and supportive, without any personal obligation or legal duty.

How can we inform and advise you?

We inform and guide citizens interested in carrying out voluntary activities, organizations that need collaboration and advice for the development of their solidarity projects, and companies that want to promote voluntary actions within their corporate social responsibility.

This information and advice service is run by the Volunteer Information Point of the Community of Madrid, in person, by telephone and telematically.

It is located at the headquarters of the Directorate General for Integration at calle Jardines nº 4 in Madrid and is part of the Information Point Network (PIV) with municipalities, associations, public universities, socio-cultural centers and sports clubs in the region.

What is a volunteer organization?

Is considered volunteer organization to the non-profit legal person, public or private, that develops activities of general interest with the participation of volunteers (Law 1/2015, of February 24, on Volunteering in the Community of Madrid).

They are legally constituted associations, foundations, federations, which are commonly categorized as NGOs, of a private and non-profit nature, which carry out their activity primarily in the field of social action, in favor of others and collective social interests. . They are social initiative organizations that, although they usually have paid professionals, carry out their activities largely thanks to the collaboration of volunteers, who complement efforts and functions.

Within their operation, volunteer organizations will observe different elements:,

Freely choose its mission, objectives and action strategy, with no other limits than those established in the Constitution and the rest of the legal system.
Respect the rights of volunteers.
Respect the rights of the volunteer recipients.
Comply with the contents and conditions of the activity freely agreed with the volunteers of the organization.
Respect the inspiring principles contemplated in the law.
Comply with the regulations regarding the protection of personal data, as well as keep the due confidentiality of the information regarding the volunteers and the recipients.
Adjust their activity to the rest of the current regulations, in accordance with the legal form they adopt.

Register your volunteer organization

The Community of Madrid offers a series of services to all volunteer organizations in the region.

If you want to register your volunteer organization, you must follow the following steps:

1º Prepare the necessary documentation of your organization:

Photocopy of the National Register of Foundations/Associations or the Register of Foundations/Associations of the Community of Madrid.
Photocopy of the Statutes.
Updated minutes of the Governing Board.
Activities memory.
Photocopy of the CIF.
Financing of the entity.
Volunteer insurance.
Volunteer program.
Voluntary Organization registration form.

2º Check the Network of Volunteer Information Points and contact the Volunteer Information Point corresponding to the municipality where your organization is based to arrange an interview with the technical staff.

3º Once all the necessary procedures have been completed, the organization will be registered in the Information and Advice System of the Community of Madrid.

Do you need volunteers for your projects?

Volunteer organizations in the region that need volunteers for their different projects have the support of the Volunteering Information and Advice System of the Community of Madrid, which integrates the Red of Volunteer Information Points.

The Volunteer Information Points, act as mediators between volunteer organizations and citizens, publicizing the activities for which these organizations need volunteers, adapting the profile of citizens to the type of volunteer activity proposed.

The dissemination of volunteering activities is carried out through different channels in order to guarantee the maximum reach among citizens and thus increase the possibilities of covering these needs. The Community of Madrid makes available to volunteer organizations a complete Volunteering Information and Advice System of the Community of Madrid:

Corporate volunteering as a CSR strategy

According to Law 1/2015, of February 24, on Volunteering in the Community of Madrid: It is understood by corporative volunteering to that promoted by a company or institution so that people linked to it (employees, retirees, shareholders, suppliers, among others), participate in volunteer activities.

For the development of corporate volunteering, it is necessary for the company to have a volunteer program aligned both with the company's strategy and the interests and abilities of the volunteers, as well as with the needs of the environment and the capacities of the volunteer organisations.

As a company that wants to do corporate volunteering, within the development of its corporate social responsibility, we inform you and advise you on the volunteering activities and projects of more than 1.100 volunteering organizations in the region that work in different fields and be able to link you to the one that best suits your CSR strategy.

The volunteer has the following rights, among others, to agree freely with the volunteer organization on the contents and conditions of the volunteer activity, to be treated without discrimination, respecting their freedom, dignity and right to privacy and to carry out their activity in safe conditions and hygiene, to be insured against the risks of accident and illness, to freely leave the volunteer organization to which they are linked, to have a volunteer accreditation, to have their activity certified by the volunteer organization and that it comply with the regulations regarding the protection of personal data, to receive permanent training, and all those derived from Law 1/2015, of February 24, on Volunteering in the Community of Madrid and the rest of the legal system.

The duties, among others, are to comply with the contents and conditions of the activity freely agreed with the volunteer organization, respect the inspiring principles contemplated in the law, respect the rights and freedoms of those who are recipients of volunteer activities, have identifying accreditation of your volunteer status when you carry out such activity, and keep, when appropriate, confidentiality of the information received and known in the development of your volunteer activity.
