Trafficking in women for the purpose of sexual exploitation
Trafficking in human beings is a serious crime that violates human rights, violates the dignity of people, their freedom and their physical and emotional integrity. It is the slavery of the XNUMXst century, a reality in Europe and in our country, which is one of the main destinations for human trafficking. And, although speaking of slavery may be unusual, it is so, because the purpose of trafficking is the exploitation of people, whatever its form, be it sexual, labor, begging, organ trafficking, exploitation to carry out criminal activities and / or forced marriages.
What is Treat?
According to the Palermo Protocol definition, human trafficking is
"The recruitment, transportation, transfer, harboring or receipt of persons, resorting to the threat or use of force or other forms of coercion, kidnapping, fraud, deception, abuse of power or situation of vulnerability or the granting or receiving of payments or benefits to obtain the consent of a person who has authority over another, for the purpose of exploitation. Exploitation includes, at a minimum, that derived from prostitution and other forms of sexual exploitation, or forced services, slavery or similar practices, servitude and removal of organs"
Regulatory and legal framework
It is from the year 2000 when various international organizations establish among their priorities the fight against trafficking in human beings, incorporating measures to make the fight against crime more effective and, above all, to ensure better assistance and protection to victims.
Protagonists of trafficking
It is not possible to speak of only one type of women who fall victim to trafficking networks. But it can be said that the 4,5 million women and girls victims of trafficking in the world have a common characteristic: they belong to the most disadvantaged layers of the planet, that is, they are part of what is known as feminization of the poverty.
On the other hand, the trafficking of women and girls for the purpose of sexual exploitation is the maximum expression of violence against women.
According to UN data, in 46% of cases the victim knew his captor. They remove the victim from her immediate environment to be treated or mobilized.
The method of recruitment can be oral, written or through the Internet, either by an individual or by a criminal organization.
They are men and women who commit crimes individually or in networks. They can be national or foreign. In general, they are people close to the victims or to their places of origin, they know their family, their problems, emotional needs and economic situation. Therefore, it is easy for them to persuade and deceive. On many occasions, when the traffickers are women, they themselves have been, in turn, victims of trafficking.
They are in charge of taking the trafficked person from one place to another, whatever the means or vehicle used, by themselves or by a third party.
On many occasions, these transfers are carried out illegally, circumventing Spanish immigration legislation. However, on other occasions, traffickers seek a way for victims to enter the country of destination with their status regularized, with a work visa or with a fixed-term tourist visa.
As their name suggests, they are responsible for exploiting the victim for financial gain. To do this, this actor is characterized by using forms of coercion and control, some reaching extreme cruelty.
In addition to the debt, the operator usually establishes a system of fines with which it taxes the debt that is sometimes impossible to pay.
As a strategy to stop being exploited and to pay the debt incurred, the height of cruelty is that some victims help traffickers to capture, in their place of origin, others who may be exploited within the same network.
The so-called "client", who should be known as the applicant or user of prostitution, becomes an accomplice who facilitates, encourages and normalizes the vicious circle of exploitation.
When the "client" normalizes it, society normalizes it, the problem is trivialized, the action is considered good and, therefore, they do not exist, because they are the normal ones, all the responsibility falls on the victim who, yes, is victimized and stigmatized.
