Blood donation statistics
The Community of Madrid is self-sufficient in blood, that is, all the blood that is transfused in hospitals is blood donated in the region. Blood donations are around 245.000 a year, a figure that makes it possible to cover hospital needs as well as maintain blood reserves.

Relationship blood donations and donors
The number of donations per donor has evolved positively. The donors who donate only once a year are decreasing and they start to do so two or three times. This data translates into greater loyalty and commitment of Madrid donors.
Blood donor profile
The profile of the blood donor in Madrid is 9% more male than female. This difference is probably due to the fact that after 29/30 years of age the percentage of women falls significantly depending on the periods of pregnancy/maternity and circumstances related to hemoglobin levels and body weight that affect the temporary exclusion of donation of blood.
The age group that donates the most in Madrid is the one over 40 years old. Although, the group of young people between 21 and 25 has been growing gradually, a very positive trend because it will allow the relief to take place as older donors retire.
