MultiEUTT project
Jean Monnet Action
Project funded by the European Union for teacher training within the framework of the Jean Monnet Actions in the Community of Madrid
European Union Multilevel Teacher Training (MultiEUTT)
Aware of the need to increase knowledge about the European Union and the sense of belonging to it among citizens, the Community of Madrid promoted, through the General Directorate of Cooperation with the State and the European Union and the General Directorate of Bilingualism and Quality of Teaching, the creation of two optional subjects in Compulsory Secondary Education, designed for the third and fourth years of ESO.
These subjects, which were taught for the first time in the 2019-2020 academic year in four schools, are currently part of the program of more than one hundred centers in the Community of Madrid.
After the first years of filming, it has become clear that, given their novelty, there is a need for teachers to have greater training in topics related to the European Union and also the appropriate materials and methodologies to teach them.
For this reason, between the two aforementioned general directorates, a proposal was submitted to the European call ERASMUS-JMO-2023-OFET-TT to develop a project that would cover these needs, giving rise to the Multilevel European Union Teacher Training (MultiEUTT) project. Multilevel Teacher of the European Union. This project has a two aims:
- To provide teachers of the subject with training both in subjects related to the history, values and policies of the EU and in methodologies appropriate to their teaching.
- To create attractive materials on the most relevant aspects of the European Union, thus facilitating their delivery and improving the results obtained.
About the project
The European Union Multilevel Teacher Training project is partly financed by the European Commission and aims to create resources and methodologies that strengthen European Union teaching in Secondary Education.
The main components of this project are:
- The creation of a panel of experts as an advisory body for the entire project
- Assessment of the existing situation
- The organization of face-to-face courses for teacher trainers
- Creating online training modules for teachers
- The organization of mobility for teachers
- The creation of teaching materials
- The publication of a digital library with specific teaching materials for the subject
- Creating gamification elements
- Organizing a global classroom activity with students.
In addition to making specific resources available to teachers who currently teach the subject, this project aims to contribute to the expansion that this subject has experienced since its creation, and also seeks to increase social awareness about the importance of education in the process of formation of the European Union.
Finally, an expected positive outcome of this project is the creation of educational resources that facilitate the teaching of the EU in other subjects such as science or English.
Subject European Union
Democracy in the EU and its Member States faces significant challenges, such as the rise of extremism, misinformation and the perceived distance between citizens and their elected representatives.
The fight against this problem must be carried out not only from the European institutions, but through a multi-level approach that encompasses all institutions. This is why the Community of Madrid has promoted in recent years the creation of the European Union subject to be taught in Secondary Education centres.
The subject is structured in two courses, with two differentiated curricula, aimed, respectively, at 3rd and 4th year students of Compulsory Secondary Education (ESO) from public, subsidized and private centers in the Madrid region. The contents, evaluation criteria and evaluable learning standards were published in the Order 1736 / 2023, from the Ministry of Education and Research.
Regulatory regulations
Order 1736/2023 of the Ministry of Education and Research, which approves subjects of free autonomous configuration in the Community of Madrid.
