The Region of Madrid in the European institutions
The people of Madrid make their voices heard in Europe
Introduction
The Community of Madrid participates in the institutions of the European Union by forming and expressing its will directly before the community institutions and through the Spanish central administration.
The formation of the will of the Community of Madrid before the EU occurs, mainly, through its participation in the Councils of Ministers of the Union and in the European Committee of the Regions.
The cooperation body between the State and the autonomous communities that guarantees their participation in the formation of the will of the state before the European institutions is the Conference for Affairs Related to the European Union (CARUE), in whose meetings the Community of Madrid participates, as well as those of the Commission of Coordinators, its support and coordination body.
The Community also participates in European decision-making through the State-autonomous communities sectoral conferences and the Ministry for Autonomous Affairs and Outermost Regions of the Permanent Representation of Spain to the EU (REPER).
Furthermore, the Office of the Region of Madrid in Brussels defends and promotes the interests of the Community of Madrid in the institutions of the European Union.

European Committee of the Regions
Goal
El European Committee of the Regions, to which the Community of Madrid belongs, is the consultative body that represents the regional and local institutions of the European Union.
Members
These participate, through the Committee, in legislation and decision-making on matters that affect local and regional administrations.
The titular member who represents the Community of Madrid on the Committee is the President of the Community of Madrid. She acts as deputy to the Director General of Cooperation with the State and the European Union.
Political work
The political work of the Committee is organized around a maximum of six plenary sessions a year, in which all members (or alternates) meet to debate and vote on opinions and resolutions.
Election of positions
Every two and a half years, the plenary session elects the President of the European Committee of the Regions and its first Vice-President.
Committee Activities
The President directs the work of the Committee and is its representative.
The activities of the Committee are organized by its executive body (the Bureau), which, together with the President, establishes the annual and medium-term political priorities to be adopted.
Participation of the Community of Madrid
The Community actively participates in the drafting of the opinions, both by presenting amendments and by supporting amendments from other autonomous communities, which are subsequently debated and, where appropriate, approved in plenary.
