Methodological information
The National Classification of Occupations (CNO) includes the standardized catalog of types of work and their competencies for the entire national territory. The CNO-11, which replaces the CNO-94, falls within the conceptual framework of the ISCO-08. The classification criteria used are the type of work performed and the skills. Competencies are understood as the ability to perform the tasks inherent to a given job, for which two points of view are taken into account: the level and the specialization of the competencies.
The CNO-11 is more disaggregated than the ISCO-08. It introduces an intermediate level between the first and second levels of the latter, which softens the structure and should be understood as an alternative to the Large Groups.
The objective of this classification is to guarantee the uniform treatment of the statistical data on occupations at the national level and its international and community comparability.
Detailed methodological explanation
The work of preparing professional profiles has been carried out in two phases with the realization: first, of 130 profiles in the year 2019 and, second, of 140 profiles in the year 2022. The common methodology used to carry out these investigations has been the following:
1. Selection of occupations
Based on the occupations with the greatest presence in the labor market of the Community of Madrid, those to be studied in each phase were determined.
2. Analysis of secondary sources
It made it possible to identify studies with similar characteristics, at a European, regional and local level and to find out how the description of competencies has been addressed in other areas and how occupations have been defined based on competencies.
3. SISPE-ESCO correspondences
Correspondence of occupations between the SISPE Classification and the ESCO Classification as exact as possible with the aim of using the ESCO taxonomy for the description of competences.
4. Description of the occupational profile
Design and preparation of a file for each occupation that includes a very complete description of the dimensions of each of the professional profiles studied. In general, the content of the files is made up of: mission and functions, skills, training and professional experience, working conditions, labor market, future prospects, main changes and technologies, among others.
5. Contrast with experts
The validation of the information, extracted from secondary sources, by experts familiar with the occupation and its context in the Community of Madrid, was essential to be able to confirm, qualify and expand the information offered, especially with regard to aspects of qualitative character, including the future prospects of the occupation. Their task consisted of adjusting and updating the information coming from official sources to the reality of the profiles and jointly discussing qualitative aspects of the files and gathering information for some specific fields.
