The Vocational Training courses of the public centers of the Community of Madrid are co-financed by the European Fund Program Plus 2021-2027, approved by Execution Decision of the Commission, of December 9, 2022.
Similarly, some specific Vocational Training projects, which are carried out until 2024, are financed by European Union funds - Next Generation as they are included in the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.
Vocational Training is a training itinerary in which he is trained to work in a professional activity in a qualified way and that includes an internship period in a real work environment.
It is arranged in three educational levels:
Each training cycle is distributed in two courses, with a duration of 2000 hours of training. At the end, the training is completed with the Work Center Training module, and to a higher degree with the Project module.

Purpose
The main purpose of Vocational Training in the educational system is to prepare you as a student for activity in a professional field and facilitate your adaptation to job changes that may occur throughout your life.
Thus, these teachings aim to ensure that as a student you acquire the capabilities that allow you, among other achievements:
- Develop the general competence corresponding to the qualification or qualifications that are the object of the studies carried out.
- Understand the organization and characteristics of the corresponding productive sector, as well as the mechanisms of professional insertion; know the labor legislation and the rights and obligations that derive from labor relations.
- Learn by themselves and work as a team, as well as training in conflict prevention and peaceful resolution of conflicts in all areas of personal, family and social life.
- Work in health and safety conditions, as well as prevent possible risks arising from work.
- Strengthen the entrepreneurial spirit for the performance of professional activities and initiatives.
Training cycles
The Vocational training certificates They serve to prove the qualifications and skills of each title and ensure a level of training. In this way, when you obtain it, you are credited with state validity the necessary training to achieve the professional qualification and enable you to have an adequate professional insertion.
The teachings that allow obtaining the titles are arranged in training cycles. Its main characteristics are:
- modular organization, made up of areas of theoretical-practical knowledge based on the various professional fields.
- Duration of 2000 hours spread over two academic years. They include a mandatory practical training period in workplaces, with a duration of 370 hours per Cycle.
- They are established three levels for Vocational Training training cycles based on the professional qualification achieved at the end of the studies:
- Basic degree training cycles (level 1)
- Intermediate training cycles (level 2)
- Higher level training cycles (level 3)
professional modules
In each training cycle, the contents are organized in Professional Modules of theoretical and practical knowledge based on the skills of the profession.
The organization by professional modules is analogous to the organization by subjects that is done in other teachings.
External
The training cycles incorporate a Module of "Formation in work centers" (FCT). This takes place in companies or work centers in a real production environment.
Your goal is complete the training acquired in the educational center and is carried out in the second year of each cycle. It has the exception of Dual Vocational Training, where instead of internships it is training in the workplace and is developed throughout an entire academic year, integrated with other professional modules of the training cycle.
Project
In the second year of the training cycles of Superior grade you have the professional Project module. this one seeks integrate knowledge and skills acquired during the training cycle, both in the aspects Technical as labor and business management.
Basic degree training cycles
The modules of these cycles are made up of areas of theoretical-practical knowledge with the purpose of acquiring professional, personal and social skills as well as lifelong learning skills.
The aim is thus to facilitate the permanence of students in the educational system and offer them greater possibilities for their personal and professional development.
This educational stage is compulsory and free.
How to access
You can access if you meet all the following requirements:
- Be fifteen years old, or turn fifteen during the current year. And not exceed seventeen years of age in the year in which the course begins.
- Having completed the first cycle of ESO, and exceptionally, having completed 2nd of ESO.
- Having been proposed by the teaching team to the father, mother or legal guardians for incorporation into a cycle of Basic Vocational Training.
Duration and organization
The Basic Vocational Training cycle lasts 2000 hours, distributed over two academic years.
The professional modules are distributed in three types:
- common blocks
- "Communication and Social Sciences", with the subjects "Castilian Language", "Foreign Language" and "Social Sciences".
- "Applied Sciences", with the subjects "Applied Mathematics to the Personal and Learning Context of a Professional Field" and "Applied Sciences to the Personal and Learning Context of a Professional Field".
- Practical Focus Modules, associated with competence units of the National Catalog of Professional Qualifications.
- Module of Formation in work centers, with 380 hours:
- "Occupational Risk Prevention" training unit, with 60 hours, taught at the educational center.
- Two training periods in the company, of 160 hours each.
The hourly distribution of the professional modules, their duration and the weekly hourly allocation are specified in section 2 of the Annex corresponding to each cycle.
Degree
By passing a basic training cycle you will obtain the basic professional title corresponding to the teachings you have completed. These have both academic and professional value, and are valid throughout the national territory.
You can also Obtain the tittle if you are over 22 years old and have accredited all the competence units included in a basic professional degree. Accreditation can be done through level 1 professional certificates obtained through Employment or by passing professional modules that are taken in the Educational System.
If you finish your studies and have not been able to obtain the basic professional title, each module passed has academic effects and allows the accreditation of the units of competence that have associated.
How to continue
Once you obtain the basic professional title you can:
- To work, in the level 1 qualifications that correspond to the degree obtained. In addition, the basic professional title will have the same labor effects as the title of Graduated in Compulsory Secondary Education for access to public and private jobs.
- Access to intermediate training cycles.
Intermediate training cycles
Professional level 2 implies, within the studies you choose:
- Competence in certain activities that can be carried out autonomously.
- Ability to use own instruments and techniques.
- Knowledge of technical and scientific fundamentals of the process activity.
El UNQUAL It is the body that defines the different levels of competence.
How to access
You can access the Intermediate Level training cycles if you meet any of the following requirements:
- Be in possession of the title of Graduate in Secondary Education.
- Be in possession of the Basic Professional title.
- Be in possession of the title of Auxiliary Technician.
- Be in possession of the title of Technician.
- Having passed the second year of the Polyvalent Unified Baccalaureate.
- Having passed the second year of the first experimental cycle of reform of secondary education.
- Having passed, from the teachings of Applied Arts and Artistic Crafts, the third course of the 1963 plan or the second of experimental commons.
- Having passed other studies declared equivalent for academic purposes with any of the above.
- Pass the corresponding entrance test, for those who do not meet any of the above requirements.
Duration and organization
The intermediate level training cycles have a duration of 2000 hours, distributed over two academic years.
The professional modules are distributed in three types:
- Practical Focus Modules, associated with level 2 competence units of the National Catalog of Professional Qualifications.
- Other modules, which, with few exceptions, exist in all intermediate level training cycles.
- Training and career counseling. In this module you will see learning opportunities, employment opportunities, work organization, relationships in the company, basic labor legislation.
- Business and Entrepreneurship. In this module you will learn mechanisms for the creation and basic management of companies, self-employment, the development of corporate social responsibility.
- Specific modules of the Community of Madrid, such as technical English for intermediate level or professional foreign language, among others.
- Module of Formation in work centers, with 370 hours.
In this module that is carried out in the company, you will complete the knowledge and skills acquired in the educational center, as well as learn more about how a company works, obtaining greater maturity, and due to the experience that this module provides, it facilitates labor insertion.
Degree
The qualification you obtain at the end of the Intermediate Level training cycle is that of "Technician", a certification that can be homologated in the European labor market.
The Technician title will be equivalent for labor or professional purposes (not for academic purposes) to the Bachelor's degree, for access to public or private jobs.
You can also get the title by beating tests to obtain the title of Technician, which are held once a year.
How to continue
Once you obtain the title of Technician of the corresponding profession you can:
- To work, in the level 2 qualifications that correspond to the degree obtained.
- access any formative Cicle of medium grade.
- access any Higher education training cycle.
Higher level training cycles
Professional level 3 implies, within the studies you choose:
- Competence in activities that require mastery of techniques and are executed autonomously.
- Responsibility for supervision of technical and specialized work.
- Understanding of the technical and scientific foundations of the activities and the process.

How to access
To access the higher level training cycles you need to meet the following requirements:
- Be in possession of the title of Technician, established by Organic Law 2/2006, of May 3, on Education.
- Be in possession of the Bachelor's degree established by Organic Law 2/2006, of May 3, on Education.
- Being in possession of the Bachelor's degree established in Organic Law 1/1990, of October 3, on the General Regulation of the Educational System or the Bachelor's degree after completing the old Multipurpose Unified Baccalaureate (BUP).
- Having passed the second year of any type of Experimental Baccalaureate.
- Have passed the university or pre-university orientation course.
- Be in possession of the title of Specialist Technician, Superior Technician or equivalent for academic purposes.
- Being in possession of a university degree or equivalent.
- Have passed the university entrance test for those over 25 years of age.
- Pass the corresponding entrance test, for those who do not meet any of the above requirements.
Duration and organization
Higher level training cycles have a duration of 2000 hours, distributed over two academic years.
The professional modules are distributed in three types:
- Practical Focus Modules, associated with level 3 competence units of the National Catalog of Professional Qualifications
- Other modules, which, with few exceptions, exist in all higher-level training cycles.
- Training and career counseling. In this module they see learning opportunities, employment opportunities, work organization, company relations, basic labor legislation, as well as the rights and duties that derive from labor relations, to facilitate access to employment or reintegration into employment in gender equality and non-discrimination of people with disabilities.
- Business and Entrepreneurship. In this module, mechanisms for the creation and basic management of companies, self-employment, the development of corporate social responsibility are known. as well as innovation and creativity in the processes and techniques of their work activity.
- Specific module of the Community of Madrid such as technical English for a higher degree or a professional foreign language, among others.
- Module of Formation in work centers, with 370 hours.
In this module, which is carried out in the company, you will complete the knowledge and skills acquired in the educational center, as well as learn more about how a company works, obtaining greater maturity, and due to the experience that this module provides, it facilitates job placement. - Module of Project, in which the knowledge acquired during the cycle, in relation to the operation of the company, is integrated.
Degree
The degree you obtain at the end of the Intermediate Grade training cycle is "Advanced technician", certification homologated in the European labor market.
You can also get the title by beating tests to obtain the title of Higher Technician, which are held once a year.
How to continue
Once you obtain the title of Superior Technician of the corresponding profession you can:
- To work, in the level 3 qualifications that correspond to the degree obtained.
- access any formative Cicle of medium grade.
- access any Higher education training cycle.
- Access to undergraduate university studies, which are determined for each Title.
Training in Work Centers (FCTs)
Training in Work Centers or FCTs, are the practices that are carried out in companies and work centers, and consist of staying in a company during the last part of the second year of a training cycle.
During this period, a training plan is drawn up between the educational center and the company so that the students can develop and apply the learning outcomes that they have been learning during the training cycle.
La duration of this period is:
- Two periods of 160 hours each, in cycles of Basic FP.
- 370 hours in the training cycles of intermediate and superior degrees.
Advantages
What does it mean for the student?
- A practical application of the knowledge acquired in a real workplace.
- Know live the internal workings of the company, supported by the knowledge acquired from the Training and Labor Guidance and Business and Entrepreneurship modules.

Student Options
Postponement of FCTs
If for any reason you cannot finish the FCT module before the end of the academic year, you can request the postponement of the qualification of this module, provided that it is justified by any of the causes that are included in the regulations.
If you are studying a higher level training cycle, the postponement of the qualification of the FCT module will in turn imply the postponement of the qualification of the professional Project module.
FCT exemption
You can apply for exemption from the Work Center Training module if you have work experience related to the training cycle and that lasts for a full-time equivalent to one year.
