The objective is to reach 7.500 bags of total blood this week among all donation points and thus alleviate the decrease in donations during the summer. This amount would recover reserve levels, which are currently at 55%, and would allow us to face the autumn with some peace of mind and provide a daily response to hospital demand.

To cover the needs of Madrid hospitals, in a normal situation 900 bags of blood are needed per day. However, the average in summer has dropped to 500. Specifically, between June and August 50.899 were extracted, 7% less than during the same period of the previous year.

During this week, therefore, those who want to join in solidarity with this macromarathon They will be able to do so, in Madrid capital, at the Hospital La Paz, 12 de Octubre, La Princesa, Ramón y Cajal, Gregorio Marañón, Clínico San Carlos, Fundación Jiménez Díaz and Niño Jesús.

In addition, the Prince of Asturias (Alcalá de Henares), Puerta de Hierro (Majadahonda), Getafe, Fundación Alcorcón, Móstoles, Fuenlabrada, Severo Ochoa (Leganés), Infanta Sofía (San Sebastián de los Reyes), Henares (Coslada), Infanta Cristina (Parla), Villalba, Torrejón, Infanta Elena (Valdemoro), El Escorial, Rey Juan Carlos (Móstoles), Tajo (Aranjuez) and Sureste (Arganda del Rey), as well as the private centers HM Puerta del Sur (Móstoles) , HM Sanchinarro (Madrid), HM Montepríncipe (Boadilla del Monte) and HM Torrelodones.

You can also donate at the Transfusion Center, located in the Madrid neighborhood of Valdebernardo, and at the mobile units of the Community of Madrid and the Red Cross. The schedules and addresses of the fixed and mobile points are available for consultation at http://c.madrid/donasangre.

The minimum requirements to donate are to be between 18 and 65 years old, weigh more than 50 kilos and be in good health. The Transfusion Center of the Community of Madrid distributes 250.000 bags of blood each year among all hospitals in the region, five of them on the list of the largest and most complex in national healthcare.

Every year, in the region, around 38.000 units of blood can be transfused in surgeries, 42.000 for onco-hematological patients, 30.000 in emergencies and 9.000 in pediatric interventions. Depending on the patient's pathology, one or more blood components, red blood cells, plasma and platelets, are transfused, so a single action can help improve or save the lives of up to three patients.
