Madrid Save with Energy

Energy is nowadays an essential good in our lives. We have become accustomed to traversing long distances in comfortable vehicles, to control the temperature that surrounds us both in winter and summer or to get our homes and offices illuminated with a simple click of a switch. However, we seldom consider how it is possible that all these wonders work or where the energy we use to achieve it comes from.

Although when we refer to the sources of energy we can be talking about a large number of things, the energy resources we consume in Western countries are basically four: petroleum derivatives, natural gas, radioactive energy sources and coal.

As can be verified by reviewing the international reports that exist on the matter, of these four resources, the existing reserves of the two most used (oil derivatives and natural gas) will be around 40 and 50 years, respectively, at the current rate of consumption.

This makes it essential to look for solutions that allow us to promote the use of alternative sources and improve our energy efficiency, always seeking the necessary balance with the environment, in a situation that is increasingly more sensitive due to the interference of man.

In the transition to a new energy paradigm, the main energy source available to humanity is energy saving and efficiency. It presents a singularity that distinguishes it from the others: its net value for society is positive from the
first moment, since it involves simply consuming less energy to produce the same and maintaining the same level of well-being. The
AIE considers that investments in energy efficiency are of the order of 50% lower than the investments in clean energy necessary to achieve the same objective.

Given this situation, the Regional Government has launched a series of initiatives aimed at improving the energy efficiency of the Community of Madrid, which are included under a common umbrella called «Madrid Save with energy».
