El Transfusion Center of the Community of Madrid, created in 1988, moved to the facilities it occupies today in Valdebernardo in 2003.
- It coordinates the promotion and planning of all blood, apheresis and plasma donations, as well as their processing, analysis and distribution to all hospitals in Madrid, including five of the largest and most complex nationwide.
- Coordinates bone marrow donation in the region. It carries out studies on donors and includes their HLA genetic profile data in the Spanish Registry of Bone Marrow Donors. In addition, it participates in the diagnosis and prognosis of pathologies derived from hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. and develops protocols for post-transplant follow-up in case of falls or rejections.
- It deals with the freezing of units of red blood cells and platelets of rare groups to ensure transfusions to patients, as well as cryopreservation of directed, autologous or stock donations.
- It is responsible for the Umbilical Cord Blood Bank located in its facilities.
