Coslada students promote the blood donation 'marathon' at the Hospital del Henares
The next May 10 and 11 from 9:00 a.m. to 21:00 p.m.
The 3rd year ESO students from IES Luis García Berlanga and the 6th year primary school students from CEIP El Olivo encourage their neighbors to donate blood on May 10 and 11 at the Hospital del Henares Blood Donation Marathon. The students have launched a promotional campaign with posters, brochures, videos and dissemination on social networks within the Learning and Service Projects (Aps) in which both educational centers participate.

Residents of the town, as well as other nearby municipalities who wish to participate in the marathon, can do so from 9:00 a.m. to 21:00 p.m. in the multifunctional room on the 1st floor, next to the cafeteria, on the floor to which access from the street. The rest of the week they can do it during the usual hours from 9:00 a.m. to 14:00 p.m. in the usual donation room.
El Transfusion Center coordinates this Learning and Service Project, together with the Municipality of Coslada and the Henares University Hospital, which is a reference center for the municipality. In addition, this blood donation marathon coincides with the plasma donation week, within the campaign “In your plasma there is a lot of life. Become a donor"
This Blood Donation Marathon carries the motto "Droughts are not only water" referring to the water problem that our country suffers due to climate change and also to the shortage of donors that Madrid hospitals suffer when the summer holidays arrive .
Campaigns that add donors
Students of IES Luis Garcia Berlanga They have created a poster that has been distributed throughout the municipality: schools, institutes, health centers, hospitals, etc. The students of the CEIP El Olivo.
They have also made radio spots and have promoted the marathon among their peers. Primary school students from CEIP El Olivo have organized talks in the rest of the classes, a bicipromotion by the municipality and gift badges for blood donors.
The Learning and Service Project also trains students with talks about blood and the history of donation, they carry out in vitro workshops to find out the blood group and basic knowledge to carry out the actions they set in motion.
The blood donation marathons increase the blood reserves of the Community of Madrid, but they also help to raise awareness among young people and their families about the importance of donation and altruism, most of them becoming blood donors once they have reached the minimum age to donate.
The ultimate goal of this project is to raise awareness and train students to promote the need to donate blood and to become the donors of tomorrow.
Coinciding with the celebration of the blood marathon, the Hospital del Henares hosts the Plasma Tour within the campaign “In your Plasma there is a lot of life. Become a donor”, which rotates every two months through six hospitals in the Madrid health network. The objective is to give visibility to the donation of plasma, since this blood component is essential for the manufacture of medicines to treat serious diseases.
Requirements for donating blood
People who wish to donate blood must be between 18 and 65 years old, weigh more than 50 kilos, not suffer or have suffered from diseases transmitted through blood, not be fasting and pass a brief medical examination.
In addition to the days of the marathon, at the Hospital Universitario del Henares you can donate on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 14 p.m. and on Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 21 p.m. in the donation room located on the 2nd floor next to CMA.
