The Community of Madrid, through the Governing Council, declares as Assets of Cultural Interest or Assets of Patrimonial Interest those assets that have a special relevance, bringing together singular values from the historical, artistic, landscape or ethnographic point of view.
BIC of the month: Buitrago satellite communications station
La satellite communications station of Buitrago de Lozoya, built in 1967 by architects Julio Cano Lasso and Juan Antonio Ridruejo Brieva, played a fundamental role in the history of science and technology of the last XNUMXth century, in the NASA Apollo missions.
The need for the US space agency to maintain contact with ships in orbit made it necessary to build stations in different places around the world, capable of responding to both the communications requirements and the transmissions of television signals that are part of of collective memory.
These characteristics have led to its declaration as an Asset of Cultural Interest of the Community of Madrid.
