Restoration of Fuente Gorda or Rodeo
Located in Talamanca de Jarama
The fountain is located in the centre of the town, in a pedestrian area in the Parque del Rodeo, next to the remains of the medieval wall in the southern area of the historic centre of Talamanca de Jarama; specifically seventy-five metres from one of the access gates to the site, the Puerta de la Tostonera.
From the sides of the fountain emerge two brass pipes that pour the water, currently not drinkable, into a quadrangular basin. From this basin the water flows through the low wall of the basin, through metal pipes, thus filling them for use as a drinking trough. The land is on a slope, so the basin is 23 cm high on its north side and 68 cm high on its south side.
Although it was generally in an acceptable state of preservation, the fountain had a number of deficiencies in its construction and waterproofing, and the lack of maintenance was causing its materials to deteriorate.
restoration project
The restoration work has sought to enhance the value of the fountain, preventing its deterioration and reversing existing damage.
The main action has focused on the recovery of its flow, through the understanding of its finishes and specific elements such as pipes, sinks, etc., for a correct execution of the repairs. The water supply has been restored and improved through the connection with the general system and the installation of a water recirculation pump, together with a new evacuation network for the areas affected.
In addition to the restoration of the pool to extend the useful life of the construction elements, work has been done on the immediate surroundings to equalize criteria regarding the urban development of the complex, by removing curbs and paving around the fountain.
