Traditional music and instruments
Enhancement of music and instruments of oral tradition
Description:
La Entresierras Association It is the first School of Traditional Music and Dance in the Sierra Norte. It was born in Madarcos, in 2012, with the aim of promoting music, dance, meetings and training in rural areas. The School teaches traditional dance classes, tambourine, tambourine, box, dulzaina, mountain bagpipe, rebec, bagpipe, hurdy-gurdy, accordion, guitar and lute, in addition to offering music and movement classes for children.
They have offices in Madarcos, La Cabrera, and spaces in some other locations, where periodic music classes are organized, and also weekend courses and monographs, with the aim of perfecting the techniques of the instruments, learning about new ones, or delve into the practice of oral tradition music. Musicians and students meet to make arrangements and proposals for folk music. Meetings that also serve to share and enjoy together what has been learned, with the rest of the community at various events.
Various visions come together at the School, from the recreation and enhancement of musical cultural heritage with an open and modern vision, to the study and deepening of the most traditional codes and the way of understanding traditional oral music. The work at the school is carried out with an integrative approach and with a clear vocation for rural revitalization through music and culture.
It promotes linking various people from the mountains, with traditional knowledge or interests, in addition to creating musical groups such as the Ronda de Cuerdas Tradicionales, which go out to play in the streets and squares of the towns. The Association has the soul of a traveling school: they form groups and go to different municipalities to give workshops.
It is a project of Intangible Heritage, of musical creation and social cohesion in rural areas that is consolidated with the enhancement of music and instruments of oral tradition and its people.
Objectives
- Keep alive and spread the culture of traditional music through the transfer of knowledge and the applied use of popular knowledge.
- Create an intergenerational meeting space to promote social cohesion through training environments: school, days on traditions and appointments from the towns' annual festive calendar.
- Community involvement in the local rural and regional environment, promoting a feeling of belonging through traditional popular music.
- Recovery of the construction techniques of popular music instruments, mountain bagpipes, square tambourine, rebec, zambomba.
