Summary of content
Coinciding with the 20th anniversary of UNESCO's Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, this publication seeks to investigate the relationship between intangible heritage and sustainability based on public policies and cases of good practices that are being carried out in this field in the territory of the Community of Madrid.
Trades, knowledge and knowledge are presented, such as dry stone or esparto grass, as well as festive rituals and their values of inclusion and social cohesion associated with them. The recovery of traditional extensive grazing in El Boalo, Cerceda and Matalpino, or the wine-growing activities of Cadalso de los Vidrios and San Martín de Valdeiglesias, are some of the examples mentioned.
The book aims to be a practical reference guide for managers of cultural heritage, based on the premise that the diversity of intangible manifestations that we find in the Madrid territory, many of them doomed to disappear, must be claimed as effective models of sustainable development.
The authors explain the importance of people, networks and citizens for the management and safeguarding of cultural heritage, and present a critical analysis of tourism and sustainability with its risks and opportunities, establishing criteria for the development of sustainable projects.
