A practical approach to heritage education as a tool in raising awareness of cultural heritage
The meeting held on December 3, 2020 online analyzed the challenge posed by heritage education, explaining the meaning of this new approach in the transmission, valuation and appropriation of the assets that make up our cultural heritage.
Some of the most prominent national specialists in the field of heritage education participated in the seminar, such as: Olaia Fontal, Ángel Portolés, Alex Ibáñez, Ana Sánchez, Tania Ballesteros and Pablo de Castro, within the framework of the actions of the Heritage Education Plan of the Community of Madrid.
Throughout the day, the need for the inclusive and universal nature of heritage was addressed in accordance with its modern conceptualization, optimizing the use of currently available tools and resources and providing elements that serve as a guide for the development of heritage educational actions.

Practical guide for the development of heritage education activities.
The General Directorate of Cultural Heritage of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Community of Madrid has prepared the monograph How to educate in Heritage. Practical Guide for the development of heritage education activities, in order to respond to this objective set in the Plan.
The scientific coordination of this publication is the responsibility of Dª. Olaia Fontal Merillas, Associate Professor at the University of Valladolid and Director of the Observatory for Heritage Education in Spain (OEPE).
