Exhibition Madrid. Bernard Plosu showed us the city of Madrid from the perspective of one of the great names in the history of contemporary photography.
Exhibition
Bernard Plossu (1945) has travelled the world, stopping off many times in Madrid, his favourite European city. In his numerous trips since the late XNUMXs, Plossu has not stopped adding iconic images that together appear as a particular map of the soul of Madrid.
The exhibition Madrid. Bernard Plosu It was curated by Rafael Doctor Roncero and organized by the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage of the Community of Madrid and PHotoESPAÑA.
The exhibition, which featured a selection of 140 images by French photographer Bernard Plossu, was complemented by an approach to the author's professional career through the meeting he held with the public in the Lolita Franco auditorium of the El Águila cultural complex.
The Madrid of Plossu
Talking about the Madrid of Plossu is talking about its subjective truth through which life manifests itself in the unexpected, surprise, decisive moments and the complicit observation of an author who has spent more than half a century traveling and interpreting the world through of a small camera.
Plossu, in a documentation process in which he flees from all artifice, offers a portrait of Madrid, where he lived intermittently, and where he established important ties with curators and artists such as Luis Baylón or Pablo Pérez Mínguez, among others. The images are natural, almost elusive and fleeting, and yet they have stuck forever in the Madrid imagination.
Walks through corners that are sometimes only hinted at but that we soon identify, photographs with movement and narrative that refer to cinema and literature because they hide a story around each corner: Madrid, its people and ways of inhabiting it.
