This afternoon the presentation of the third edition of the Esteban Ferre Trophy dedicated to the world of trimming, a championship organized by the Community of Madrid together with the Toro de Lidia Foundation. This Trimmers Trophy is part of the "Bull Festival of the Community of Madrid ” along with the Novilladas Circuit, the Chenel Cup, the “Manuel Vidrié” bullfighting tournament and the “Kilómetro Cero” contest without picadors.

This year there will be two trimmer festivals with the participation of a total of 16 young promises from the Community of Madrid and cattle ranches from the Madrid brava cabin with a total of 6 different irons. The competition will be divided into a qualifying event and a final, to which a total of 12 trimmers will qualify. From each of the four groups established for that first competition, the three best will qualify for the final. The composition of the groups was made by draw during the presentation.

The classification celebration will be held on November 18 in Navalcarnero with bulls from Flor de Jara, El Gallo, Guerrero y Carpintero and El Uno. The grand final of the contest will be on the day November 25 in Moralzarzal with bulls from Flor de Jara, Dehesa de Guadarrama, El Uno and Caras Blancas. In that grand final, the 12 classified trimmers will be divided into three groups, moving on to the final bull, Caras Blancas, the best in each group.

The Community of Madrid culminates the first phase of the third edition of the Fiesta del Toro, with the final three of the Circuito de Novilladas, which will be held on June 24 in Cercedilla and on July 1 in Valdetorres de Jarama. Marcos del Rincón from the José Cubero “Yiyo” School, Pepe Luis Cirugeda from the Navas del Rey School and Alejandro Chicharro from the Miguel Cancela School in Colmenar Viejo, have been finalists in the Heifer Circuit. This competition has previously been held in the municipalities of Torres de la Alameda, Villa del Prado, San Martín de Valdeiglesias, Navas del Rey, Brea de Tajo and Miraflores de la Sierra.

18 MATADOR IN THE CHENEL CUP

May 11, 2023.- The Community of Madrid has paid tribute today to the right-handed Andrés Hernando by installing a commemorative tile on the ground floor of line 1 of Plaza de las Ventas on the 60th anniversary of his alternative as a bullfighter in Segovia. . The Minister of the Presidency, Justice and the Interior, Enrique López, participated in the event, which was attended by the teacher's family and colleagues.

In this San Isidro, López pointed out, “we especially remember the figure of Hernando, one of the most important right-handers of the late 60s and early 70s of the last century. He came to fight up to 19 afternoons at the Maestranza and achieved three large gates in Madrid, in the first bullring in the world, one of them on such an important day as the 1964 charity run. With this tile, we will remember his career forever". Hernández, the son of a taxi driver who emigrated to Madrid, had no family history of bullfighting. It was, as he himself pointed out, the death of Manuel Rodríguez Manolete that prompted him to become interested in bullfighting.

May 8, 2023.- The Vice Minister of the Interior of the Community of Madrid, Carlos Novillo, has participated today in the award ceremony of the fifth edition of the Veterinary Sales Team Award, which has gone to the farmer José Escolar for the bulls that were fought on May 31, considered by the jury as the most complete bullfight of the last San Isidro Fair.

This award "represents the recognition of the profession for hard and constant work, which highlights the importance of the livestock sector, a basic pillar in bullfighting", highlighted Novillo, who thanked "the excellent initiative of the professionals veterinarians from the first bullring in the world for their support in raising a healthy, upright and brave bull”. "This essential activity in the rural world, which has a high ecological commitment, helps to structure the territory and employs a large workforce in the region," he concluded.

The Community of Madrid, through the Center for Bullfighting Affairs, pays tribute to the figures of the masters Antonio Welcome, Jose Cubero "Yiyo" y Antonio Chenel "Antoñete" with the installation of three colored decorative vinyls on the roofs of the gang yards, large door and drag yard, respectively, to the delight of amateurs and professionals.

February 7, 2023.- The Community of Madrid opens today in the Plaza de las Ventas the Carriquiri Library, one of the most important bibliographic collections in the world due to its high specialization in bullfighting. Located in the José María de Cossío de la Monumental Room, it consists of archived documents from 1559 to the present. In total, about 10.000 works spread over 18.000 volumes on physical support preserved in good condition, donated by the rancher Antonio Briones.
Among them, stand out books, museum pieces, posters, postcards, photographs and press dossiers. Its funds are added to those already housed in this room, turning the arena from Venteño into a space of bibliographical and cultural reference in bullfighting of international stature.

The Minister of the Presidency, Justice and the Interior, Enrique López, and the Minister of Culture, Tourism and Sports, Marta Rivera de la Cruz, have participated in the inauguration of this space, and have thanked the enormous generosity and great patronage work carried out by the Briones rancher. With this initiative, "the Madrid arena increases its bullfighting bibliographic collections, which means an enrichment for the Community of Madrid, complemented, in many aspects, with other existing collections", López stressed. 

Rivera de la Cruz, for his part, has highlighted the cultural and patrimonial nature of the bullfighting festival, a protected asset that, in accordance with the Law, the Community must preserve. "With this donation, knowledge of bullfighting culture is expanded and the importance of Las Ventas is promoted as a reference, also for tourism, in our region," he added.

The geographical coverage of all these volumes and books is mostly national, although some titles are written in Portuguese, English, French and those related to America are significant.

The content is very varied:
Literary work (zarzuelas, novels), biographies of bullfighters, chronicles of festivities, legislation and regulations, or bullfighting treatises.
Outstanding among the ensemble is a first edition of Goya's Bullfighting, dated 1816; the Synodal Constitutions of Toledo from the 1850th century, which reflects the complaint of the priests for the celebration of bullfights on Sundays; History of bullfighting and the main livestock farms in Spain by Fernando de Bedoya (1959); Bullfighting by Pablo Picasso (2014), edited by the prestigious publishing house Gustavo Gili; Hemingway's bullfighting works translated into several languages; or the Genesis of a bullfighting by Eduardo Naranjo (XNUMX), an art book with some very high-quality engravings, such as the four dedicated to Sánchez Mejías.
Other notable works, already incorporated into the regional heritage fund, are the 35 museum pieces such as watercolors or pieces of ephemera from different years; puzzles like the one that reproduces the Maestranza in Seville, stamps dedicated to Manolete or Christmas cards. Among the small-format posters there are from a flyer from 1802, to very recent pieces, both originals and facsimile pieces. As for postcards, it is made up of 47, from various publishers and dated between 1895 and 1970. It also has an important collection of photographs, from the XNUMXth century to today in different formats and supports, most of them original.

This noon the presentation of the new Kilómetro Cero contest for bullfighters without picadores took place in the Antonio Bienvenida de Las Ventas room, which will be held at Palacio Vistalegre on the next 24, 25 and 26 February. This contest is part of the Community of Madrid Bullfight Festival promoted by the Bullfighting Affairs Center together with the Toro de Lidia Foundation. Plaza 1, the management company of Las Ventas, and Palacio Vistalegre are actively collaborating on this opportunity for young bullfighters.

Present at the presentation ceremony were: Luis Miguel Torres, General Director of Security, Civil Protection and Training of the Community of Madrid, Miguel Abellan, managing director of the Bullfighting Affairs Center and Victorino Martin, president of the Toro de Lidia Foundation. The participating bullfighters and Madrid ranchers who will fight in this contest were present. The event was hosted by the journalist and project manager at Palacio Vistalegre, Gonzalo I.
