To make a good axe, you need to be a deep connoisseur of the original technology of blacksmithing, based on knowledge that combines geometry with alchemy. You need to know how to listen to the roasting of the charcoal and move with agility between the anvil and the fire. You need to strike the steel with precision and bathe it in warm water before it becomes brittle.

During the talk that will take place on September 19th in the auditorium of the Sala Alcalá 31 we will be the magician in the tarot and in the center of the table we will place an axe. An axe that will be used both to cut wood and to cut up meat and/or win competitions. We will launch vanishing points that will cover some perversions of the tool, converted for us into a friendly souvenir, terrifying monument, cultural record or why not, in a catchy song.

In the workshop, which will take place on September 19 and 20, we will take a tour of the shifts that have guided Sahatsa Jauregi's artistic practice in recent years and will divide it between practice and theory. First, practice in four phases, then theory and the embodiment of what we have seen, heard and spoken:

It is not surprising that the drawing "Sight and Touch" made by Federico García Lorca between 1929 and 1930 displays a line that goes from the eye to the hands, from the eyes threads emerge like veins and little hands that extend like hairs, or nerves, or capillaries. The threads of the drawing are conductive vessels. Conductors of what? Of meaning, I would say? Of feeling. Vessels that communicate and are felt, perceived, but from within. From the veins? Could it be from the circulating blood?

"Touching with the eyes, seeing with the hands" is the title of the conference and workshop in which the writer and researcher Isabel de Naverán shares two short essays recently written about the capacities of a thought when, as Marie Bardet says, "it becomes sensitive." It is about paying attention to the movement that goes from lived experience to writing, from the body to the word, from memory to gesture, from sight to touch. Open reflections that, on this occasion, start from some works and writings by Roni Horn (1955), Emily Dickinson (1830-1886) and Federico García Lorca (1898-1936).

During the workshop, we will review some of Isabel de Naverán's previous research to raise questions that can be addressed collectively. We will work on the capacity of bodies to house and reproduce memories and we will propose simple physical exercises that inhabit the space between the visible and the tangible. We will work with our eyes closed, on a journey from gesture to voice.
