Healthy routes, uniting municipalities in the region, to walk, move or exercise through environmental spaces
It forms part of the 'Madrid Region Activa' program to promote healthy physical exercise among citizens
Active trails of the Community of Madrid
The fundamental objective is to promote alternatives for simple sports practice, within everyone's reach (walking, cycling or other ecological means of transport), combining healthy physical exercise with tourist or environmental activity, while promoting other alternatives for active mobility. For this, all those itineraries available in our region will be used. In addition, different initiatives are collected, from entities or organizations of the Community of Madrid, related to this activity.
The factors that favor work in this sense are:
- general awareness on the need to incorporate physical exercise into daily life for all citizens, adapted to age groups.

The general recommendation to walk or cycle, that doctors carry out on almost all patients, although many times it does not correspond to the existence of safe paths, especially in the routes that are made on foot when leaving small towns.

The rise of “active mobility” (replacement of travel by vehicle for travel on foot, by bicycle or any other non-polluting vehicle), especially indicated for medium or short distances (transport between neighboring municipalities, urbanizations, access to nearby educational or sports centers, etc...) .
With regard to schools and institutes, and based on experiences in educational centers located in some cities, there are studies that relate the benefit provided by an active commute to school compared to better concentration in studies and academic performance.
'Metrominute' Madrid Active Region
Initiative based on the preparation of a map or plan of each municipality in the region, similar to that of Metro de Madrid, with information related to points of interest and indicating the existing distance and time spent walking between them.
ADENI circuit of healthy routes
La Sports Association of the National-I, made up of 22 municipalities in the northern and eastern mountains of the region (BUITRAGO, BUSTARVIEJO, CABANIILLAS DE LA SIERRA, CANENCIA, CERVERA DE BUITRAGO, EL BERRUECO, EL MOLAR, EL VELLON, GARGANTA DE LOS MONTES, GUADALIX DE LA SIERRA, LA CABRERA, LOZOYUELA-NAVAS-SIETE IGLESIAS, NAVALAFUENTE, PATONES, PEDREZUELA, RASCAFRIA, TALAMANCA DE JARAMA, TORRELAGUNA, TORREMOCHA, VALDEMANCO, VENTURADA AND VILLAVIEJA DE LOZOYA) has created el ADENI Circuit of Healthy Routes, for the local promotion of sport and physical culture in the area.

Routes from the Navacerrada Residence
La Navacerrada Residence, belonging to the Community of Madrid, occupies an emblematic building located in the highest part of the nucleus of the Puerto de Navacerrada station, a strategic enclave of the Sierra de Guadarrama. For clients staying in it, or for those others who want to know it, a series of routes are proposed to be carried out on foot that start and end from it. In all of them, indications are offered to access the most well-known nearby spaces, also including tracks for monitoring with GPS devices or mobile phones.

Greenways of the Community of Madrid
La Foundation of the Spanish Railways, created in 1985, aims to promote aspects related to the railway through sports, cultural or environmental activities, courses, museums, editions, studies, archives and libraries, etc. Since 1993, the old railway lines have been conditioned to be traveled by travelers other than those who used them by train: cyclists, walkers and people with reduced mobility.
The aim of Greenways Program, developed since 1993 in collaboration with ADIF and RENFE Operadora, is to actively collaborate with the Autonomous Communities, Provincial Councils, Councils and Town Halls, as well as cycling clubs or associations, environmentalists and citizen groups.

Network of paths in Madrid
The Community of Madrid makes available to all citizens an extensive network made up of a multitude of signposted itineraries that run through environmental areas of interest throughout the vast natural heritage of the region. These spaces represent, together, approximately half of our territory. The objective is to offer all the information related to them through the Network of Paths in Madrid.
Livestock roads of the Community of Madrid
Livestock tracks are routes or itineraries where, traditionally, cattle used to take advantage of the pastures in the pastures during the summer or winter seasons. These roads can also be used for other uses, as long as livestock traffic and rural use are prioritized, inspired by sustainable development and respect for the environment, landscape, and natural and cultural heritage. These roads are a unique historical legacy in Europe, considering public domain goods and, consequently, inalienable, imprescriptible and unattachable. Guides 'Discover your Cañadas'
The Community of Madrid has published a series of informative guides to discover the most representative ravines in the region. There are a total of 17, which include environmental, cultural and tourist information on the areas through which it runs. Each of them has thematic documentation, cartography, technical data, profile and images, as well as the corresponding track to be able to follow them with a telephone or GPS device. The Community of Madrid has published two works, Bicitren and Bicitren 2, in which are collected 50 mountain bike routes (some compatible to be done on foot) that have as a common link their origin and end in train stations. This makes it possible for those fans who do not have an alternative means of transport to travel, mostly young people, or those who wish to change their car for a more ecological means. Through the 1.873 kilometers described, will run through the most emblematic areas of the Community, especially those referring to the Sierra de Guadarrama.
Nature Trails of the Community of Madrid
El Natural Trails Program, developed and carried out by the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and Environment, consists of 9.461 kilometers. It is carried out in collaboration with other territorial administrations that are responsible for its subsequent maintenance. These paths, located on old transportation infrastructure, are dedicated to hiking, cycling and equestrian uses, allowing the population to get closer to the natural environment. Old railway tracks, canals, towpaths, livestock trails, paths, and even old public roads, are once again used by a population that demands contact with nature and quiet spaces in which to carry out recreational and sports activities away from traffic. motorized. This Way is circumscribed to the Valley of Lozoya, located to the northwest of the Community of Madrid. It is made up of a main route and six complementary itineraries, which offer the traveler the chance to get to know the southern slope of the Sierra de Guadarrama, a valley dotted with hermitages hidden among hundred-year-old pine forests, which has the constant presence of the Lozoya River, and a rich biodiversity in which species as threatened as the imperial eagle or the graellsia, a unique night butterfly in the world. It begins at the Puente del Perdón (Rascafría) and runs through the municipalities of Oteruelo del Valle, Alameda del Valle, Pinilla del Valle, Lozoya and Garganta de los Montes, ending in El Cuadrón.
This beautiful and simple route runs through the southeast of Madrid, following the route of the Cañada Real Soriana Oriental, one of the nine Cañadas Reales that cross the Iberian Peninsula from north to south and one of the four that cross the Community of Madrid. Throughout its almost 24 km, it runs through the Madrid Alcarria between countryside, moors and meadows, allowing the traveler to enjoy the agricultural landscape that marks the main activity of the rural municipalities of Brea de Tajo, Valdaracete and Fuentidueña de Tajo and transferring to a time not so distant in which numerous herds crossed these roads in a hard journey in search of food.
The Tagus Nature Trail transports us, for more than 1.000 kilometres, along the banks of the longest river in the Iberian Peninsula, from its source in the Montes Universales, in the Sierra de Albarracín, to the Portuguese border in Cedillo, traveling endlessly of landscapes, along with much of the history and culture of inland Iberia, crossing the provinces of Teruel, Guadalajara, Madrid, Toledo and Cáceres. This Nature Trail has been approved as a long-distance trail (GR-113) by the Spanish Federation of Mountain Sports (FEDME). In the Community of Madrid it affects 138,51 kilometers of it, running through the southern municipalities: Estremera, Fuentidueña de Tajo, Villamanrique de Tajo, Colmenar de Oreja and Aranjuez.
