A festival created in 1971, which has consolidated its prestige over the years and is currently one of the most important short film competitions in the national arena and a must for experts and fans. Alcine, which is held during the month of November, has constantly sought to expand its cultural and cinematographic offerings, organizing tributes, meetings, exhibitions, competitions for young people and adults, organized by the City Council of Alcalá de Henares with the support of the Community of Madrid.
2019 edition
Spanish and European Short Film Competition
Alcine has several competitive sections. The National Contest is the most veteran competitive section. Every year it becomes a showcase for a selection of national feature films. The European Contest was created in 2006.
As a novelty of this edition, ALCINE becomes a festival that qualifies for the Oscars in the category of animation and fiction. The first prize of the National Short Film Competition and also the first prize of the European Competition have the option to participate in the selection of the Oscars.
There are also other competitive sections dedicated to the film: Pantalla Abierta, with the best recent Spanish works by new filmmakers.
Educational side
Alcine tries to open a way of reflection on the problems of film education and visual education in our country and on film processes.
On the other hand, with Alcine Kids, children and young people become protagonists of many of the activities organized by the festival with the aim of forming new viewers.
The short film in the world
From 1983 international sections are scheduled that have had as an object the short film and the animation film produced in the rest of the world as well as retrospectives of filmmakers or cinematographers that have stood out in this field.
